Our Declaration

Here at Switchboard Victoria, we are passionate about LGBTQIA+SB suicide prevention, as part of that work we are developing a national Declaration of LGBTQIA+SB Lived Experience Leadership in Suicide Prevention.

The Declaration is a document that includes a set of demands, informed by lived experience, that support safe suicide prevention service delivery for LGBTQIA+SB people at all levels of healthcare. Our aim is that individuals, healthcare organisations and governments will sign onto this important Declaration, making a commitment to LGBTQIA+SB suicide prevention.

Our Stories

While LGBTQIA+ people are at higher risk of mental ill health and suicidality, we know that LGBTQIA+SB people have been supporting each other through our challenges and experiences forever.

The Declaration Campaign aims to illuminate stories of LGBTIQA+SB resilience and peer support. Stories of how we as a community support each other, illuminating the work LGBTQIA+SB communities already do and declaring the necessity of this peer support and leadership at every level of suicide prevention care.

Add your voice to the Declaration

As part of the Declaration, we have launched a series of  codesign sessions with intersectional community members.

All sessions are held online via Teams, engaging several intersectional groups within the LGBTQIA+SB community. The aim to include the unique perspective and experiences of people from intersecting parts of community.

We are looking for diverse LGBTQIA+SB people with lived experiences of suicide. When we talk about lived experience of suicide, we include anyone who has experienced suicidality or a suicide attempt, people who have been bereaved or lost someone to suicide, and people who have cared for a loved one through a suicidal crisis or suicide attempt.

If you or someone you know are identify as part of any of the above groups and are interested in contributing to our codesign series, you can find out more here.
