Donate to Switchboard

Your donations help us to run the programs that support the LGBTIQA+ community through peer to peer counselling, suicide prevention, anti-racism, LGBTIQA+ family violence support and connecting our older LGBTI community.

By choosing to make a tax-deductible donation to Switchboard, you are supporting a service that connects and supports our LGBTIQA+ communities in Victoria

Switchboard works to support and connect our LGBTIQA+ communities through a range of different services offering peer-to-peer support in areas that include gender and sexuality, diverse relationships, suicide prevention, family violence support, anti-racism advocacy, and social inclusion for older LGBTI communities.

By making a tax-deductible donation today, you will be helping us to continue and improve the services and activities we provide, which include:

  • On-going training, peer-support and learning opportunities for our volunteers in our QLife and Out and About programs.

  • Counselling Supervision for all of our counsellors

  • Rainbow Door, a free specialist helpline for referral, and support to enable LGBTIQA+ people to navigate the system and access the supports they need.

  • Skills-sharing workshops to promote resilience, positive mental health and wellbeing within QTIBPoC communities.

  • Peer-led suicide prevention, intervention and postvention programs for LGBTIQA+ people.

  • Social inclusion and connections for older LGBTI people who are isolated and/or live in aged care.

Every dollar you donate helps make a difference. By choosing one of the options below, you could help save a life.

Bequests

By leaving a gift for Switchboard Victoria in your Will, you can make a profound change to the life of many LGBTIQA+ people. Every bequest, big or small, will help us connect LGBTIQA+ people of all ages, genders, backgrounds and experiences with community, support, services and information. You may choose to give to our organisation generally or to a specific program within Switchboard Victoria.

For example, a small gift of $10,000 can provide three social events for older LGBTI people who live in aged care to come together. $20,000 could provide 4 x 10 day training courses for 25 volunteers to work on our QLife helpline. A gift of $35,000 could fund the expansion of a  targeted program such as our suicide prevention program to could extend our community training and resources for the community.

All gifts – however great or small – are greatly valued and significantly help in our future planning.

Here's how to start the conversation.

If you would like to write or amend your Will to include Switchboard Victoria, we strongly recommend that you seek independent legal advice. This will  ensure the option you have chosen best reflects your intentions. A solicitor will be able to advise you on the type of bequest to suit your circumstances. Free legal assistance is available from your trade union, local Community Legal Service or local Citizen’s Advice Bureau and Will kits are available at post offices.

Where possible we encourage you to discuss your decision with your family, chosen family and loved ones. This will ensure they understand and support your reasons for choosing to help Switchboard Victoria in such a powerful way.

 Acknowledging your gift

Switchboard Victoria would like to recognise the gifts left by individuals and/or groups through social media and in our annual report. We value your privacy and will always seek permission before making any public acknowledgement. This might be something you wish to provide guidance on within your Will instructions.

Donating through your workplace or payroll giving is a tax-effective way to support our work.

When you make a donation through payroll, your donation is taken from your salary before tax is deducted. It costs you less and the Australian Tax Office gives us the tax it would otherwise have kept. You can donate regularly and sometimes your employer even matches your donations, so be sure to check!
