Creative Bereavement Session - Sensory Creative Writing
Hosted by Switchboard’s Suicide Prevention Program
Switchboard Victoria's Creative Bereavement Sessions
Switchboard’s LGBTIQA+ Suicide Bereavement Program is hosting a series of creative bereavement sessions where participants will connect with loss after a suicide by participating in expressive exploration. When we experience grief, we feel big emotions and movement. Creative expression can allow us to understand our experiences differently, help us in our relationship to grief, and assist with connecting to our feelings and experiences that can feel beyond words.
Please register and leave your details for a call back to discuss your interest in attending.
One of our staff will be in touch to discuss with you what it might be like for you to attend this session or explore other support options.
Session
Date: Thursday, 19th June
Time: 7.00pm - 9.00pm AEDT
Location: Zoom (Online)
Facilitator: Ayşe B.
Bio
Ayşe (she/her) is a playwright, support worker, training facilitator, wild bird spotter and a big fan of crunchy food. She enjoys collective thinking and writing.
Activity
Ayşe will guide participants in a sensory journey through their grief: using creative writing prompts to reflect on the sound, taste, texture and feeling of their loss - How would you write a recipe of your grief? What sounds did your loved one leave behind? What texture do you associate with their presence?
We are inviting participants to let their mind take these two hours off and let their senses lead their pen, uncovering the narratives that have been hiding under their skin.
What to expect
Sensory focused writing prompts to awake senses
Optional reflective sharing
Connection with others, ourselves, memories and surroundings
