Transgender Day of Remembrance Panel Event

Each year in honour of Transgender Day of Remembrance, we come together to remember the lives that have been lost to transphobic violence, and to celebrate the strength and resilience of transgender people in the face of adversity.

 This year, we are hosting an online event to bring together transgender communities and allies to remember, to listen, and to reflect. We invite you to join us in centring the voices of transgender-identifying people of colour and First Nations transgender people, who still face alarming rates of discrimination, marginalisation and violence.

Date: 18 November, 2021
Time: 1pm – 2:30pm
Register Here: https://bit.ly/3qgZWj6

Join us online for an afternoon of conversation and performance, as we band together in solidarity to reflect on Transgender Day of Remembrance, and to realign with our collective commitment of creating a more inclusive and safer world for our transgender, gender diverse and non-binary communities.

Guided by our MC, Star Lady, this event includes:

  • A Welcome to Country by N’arwee’t Dr Aunty Carolyn Briggs AM;

  • Words by Todd Fernando, Commissioner for LGBTIQ+ Communities;

  • Performances by Amao Leota Lu;

  • A Q&A-style panel featuring transgender-identifying BIPOC speakers, chaired by Mama Alto.

We hope you can join us for this important event as we remember, listen and reflect.

This Transgender Day of Remembrance event is produced by Switchboard Victoria, in partnership with Koorie Pride Victoria (KPV), Zoe Belle Gender Collective (ZBGC), Many Coloured Sky (MCS) and Transgender Victoria (TGV).

Our organisations are based on the lands of the Kulin Nations, always and forever the home of the Wurundjeri, Boonwurrung, Wathaurong, Taungurong and Djadjawarung peoples. We hope to pay our respects to Kulin Nation elders past, present and emerging and extend our respects to the traditional custodians of each of the nations throughout Australia where this event may be streamed. Sovereignty has never been ceded, and this always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
