Switchboard submission to VIC hate crimes inquiry

In February 2026, the Victorian Parliament announced a Parliamentary Inquiry into anti-LGBTIQA+ hate crimes in Victoria.

This Inquiry was established in recognition of rising anti-LGBTIQA+ hate crimes in Victoria and across the country. It has been tasked with looking at the drivers of anti-LGBTIQA+ hate crimes and what the government could do to respond to and prevent further harm.

As part of this Inquiry, the Victorian Parliament invited written submissions from LGBTIQA+ organisations and individual community members.

In addition to making a written submission, Switchboard Victoria was also invited to give evidence at a parliamentary hearing held June 24 - 25, 2026.

The Parliamentary committee is now reviewing all the evidence they have heard and will deliver their recommendations by September 1, 2026.

In the meantime, our commitment to addressing and preventing anti-LGBTIQA+ hate continues.
